Lookup
Shows a value from the target row linked via a foreign key field directly in this table – without having to open the target row separately.
When creating one, you choose:
- the foreign key field of this table to look up through,
- the column on the target table whose value should be shown.
A lookup field is read-only – the displayed value can’t be edited directly, only via the target row itself.
For the reverse case – summarizing values from several rows that point to this row – see Rollup. If instead the individual child rows themselves should be visible (not just an aggregated value), see Child records.
Changing the connection afterward
Via the column context menu → “Edit field” you can adjust an existing lookup field’s connection at any time, without having to delete and recreate the column. In the edit modal, in addition to field name and display format, two pre-selected dropdowns appear:
- the foreign key field to look up through,
- the target column on the linked table.
Both can be changed independently of each other; clicking “Save” applies the new connection immediately.
