Gantt view

Shows rows as a timeline – for project and milestone planning. Each row becomes a bar from its start to its end date (both days included, counted in calendar days); a row without an end date, or with end ≤ start, automatically appears as a milestone (diamond).

Settings

  • Start field (required) and End field – date or date+time fields (physical, formula or rollup).
  • Title column – the label; without one, the primary key.
  • Group by – e.g. project. Each group gets a color and a collapsible header row with its overall span.
  • Parent item – a foreign key of the table onto itself. Sub-items are shown indented under their parent, any depth, collapsible. A parent with its own dates shows those (with a thin line below for the span of its sub-items); if sub-items run outside, it’s marked red (⚠). Without own dates it shows a summary bar over its sub-items’ span.
  • Predecessor (dependency) – a foreign key onto the same table (one predecessor) or an n:m link of the table with itself (several predecessors). Arrows run from the predecessor’s end to the successor’s start (finish-to-start). If a successor starts before the day after its predecessor ends, the arrow turns red. Nothing is moved automatically.
  • Progress – number field 0–100, fills the bar.
  • Color column – a field with display format Color or Label (label colors apply). Without one, the group colors the bars.
  • Extra columns on the left – any further columns (e.g. owner, status) in the left list; Show duration (days) adds a calendar-day column. Drag the right edge of the list header to resize it.
  • Default zoom – week, month, quarter or year on first open.
  • Read-only – turns off editing in the timeline (a click still opens the record).

Usage

  • Move: drag a bar or diamond – start and end move together, snapped to whole days. Resize: drag a bar’s left or right edge. Date+time fields keep their time of day.
  • Create: drag across empty space in a row – a short form opens with start/end, group and, where applicable, parent pre-filled (dragging in an item’s row creates a sibling). Alternatively + in a group header, + New item below each group, or in the toolbar.
  • Click a bar, diamond or title to open the record.
  • Zoom: the week/month/quarter/year levels at the top right, plus stepless zoom with + / − next to them or Ctrl + mouse wheel over the chart (the point under the mouse stays put).
  • » at the top of the left list folds the extra columns away to give the chart more room.
  • Today jumps to the red date line; zoom, collapsed groups and the list width are remembered per view by your browser.
  • Export → Print / PDF opens a print layout (landscape; choose “Save as PDF” in the print dialog), Save as PNG downloads the whole timeline as an image.

Editing requires write permission on the table. The view’s filters and sorting apply as everywhere; rows without a start date (and without dated sub-items) are skipped and shown as a count at the top.
