Wiki view

A tree-shaped page view: a table of contents (page tree) on the left, the title and rendered Markdown content of the selected page on the right – exactly what you’re reading right now.

Settings

Via the view’s three-dot menu:

  • Title field – must be a field of type Text.
  • Document field – must be a Long text field with the Markdown display format.
  • Parent page field – a foreign key field that points to the same table (self-reference). Only genuine self-referencing foreign key fields appear in this selection.
  • Sort field (optional, Decimal) – enables drag and drop, see below.
  • Attachments field (optional, Attachment) – shows the selected page’s files as a small gallery in the footer area, only when the page actually has files. Clicking an image opens the lightbox, which also has a download button.

The page tree

Pages with no parent value are shown as root pages, all others as sub-pages of their parent page – nested arbitrarily deep. Without a sort field, sibling pages are sorted alphabetically by title.

Creating and editing pages

The “+” button at the bottom of the sidebar creates a new root page; the “+” icon that appears when hovering over a tree entry creates a sub-page below it. In both cases, the familiar form editor opens immediately for filling in – a page that’s already been created but not yet filled in stays in the tree as an empty page if the dialog is closed without saving.

A page with existing sub-pages can’t be deleted while those sub-pages still exist.

The search field above the page tree searches every text and long-text column of the table – not just title and document. While searching, the tree only shows the paths to matches (the match itself plus all of its ancestors up to the root) – everything else is hidden.

A selected page is reflected in the URL (?record=<id>) – a link to that URL opens the view directly at the corresponding page.

Within a page’s document text you can reference another page of the same table by writing a Markdown link to #page-<id>, e.g. [See Data Sources](#page-12) (the number is the target row’s primary key ID). Clicking it jumps directly to the target page within the view, instead of triggering a real browser navigation. A normal external link is unaffected by this.

Reordering and moving (drag and drop)

Only available when a sort field is configured. The tree is locked by default so nothing gets moved by accident – a toggle above the tree unlocks it for dragging. Once unlocked:

  • Dragging a page onto another page makes it that page’s sub-page.
  • Dragging a page between two sibling pages sorts it in there (also adopting the new parent page if applicable).

The locked state isn’t saved – the tree is locked again after every reload. A page can’t be dragged onto one of its own sub-pages.
