Export and import schema

On a data source’s detail page you can export its app configuration as a JSON file and import it again on another (or the same) data source.

Important: this is not a database dump and not a SQL migration. Only metadata that IllusionDB itself manages is exported:

  • Column display names and display formats.
  • Formula, lookup, rollup, links, and attachment definitions.
  • Saved views (filter, sorting, grouping, summaries, view-type configuration).

References are resolved by name, not by internal IDs – so the import also works on a structurally identical but freshly created database.

Important limitation: the import itself creates no database schema. The tables and columns the imported configuration refers to must already actually exist in the target database (and be synchronized) – the import only adds the app metadata on top.

Useful, for example, for: transferring the same configuration to a test and a production instance with identical schema.
